Sewage Cleanup in Indiana

Sewage backups are a persistent problem in the Indianapolis metro because much of the urban core is served by combined sewers that carry stormwater and wastewater in the same pipes. In heavy rain those pipes surcharge and can push sewage back through basement floor drains, historically sending billions of gallons of combined sewer overflow into the White River each year. Citizens Energy Group's DigIndy program, a network of deep rock tunnels beneath the city, was built specifically to capture that overflow and reduce basement backups. On the suburban edges, homes on aging laterals and septic systems face their own backup risks from tree-root intrusion and saturated ground.
